A general purpose, non-silicone release agents based on a blend of waxes in a hydrocarbon solvent. COM 300 is suitable for the release of all polyester and epoxy composites and as a liquid is easy and cost effective to apply to plugs and moulds with textured surfaces. Proved to be successful for certain other resin and polyurethane based moulding processes. Aids release of heavy and difficult mouldings and has been found especially effective for the release of resin bonded stone and impregnated sand.
Advantages
- Simple - easy to apply liquid; saves time over traditional paste waxes
- Works on:
- Gel coated & ungel coated moulds
- MDF
- Plaster
- Timber & Aluminium moulds
- Buffable to give high gloss finish
- Possible to get multiple lifts (4-5 maximum) before re-application necessary
Applications
Suitable for release of:
- GRP mouldings
- Some flexible polyurethane foams
- Resin bonded stone and Resin impregnated sand
COM 300 should be shaken before application to ensure the waxes are evenly distributed. Storage and working temperatures will affect the viscosity of the liquid but will not affect its performance. Porous surfaces such as plaster or wood should be sealed with a single pack polyurethane or polyester high-build surface coating.
For new GRP moulds 4-5 applications are recommended with single coat applications between pulls. Application may be by spray, brush or cloth and excess wax should be removed by cloth before polishing. Alternatively after the excess wax has been removed the film can be allowed to dry and lightly buffed to a gloss finish. Leave at least 10 minutes between coats to avoid streaking and to allow the solvents to fully evaporate. After the final coat has been applied leave 20 minutes before applying the gel coat.
On new moulds an additional application of PVA release agent is recommended prior to gel coat application. Due to the increased wax content a longer drying time at room temperature after the final coat of about 30 mins is recommended before beginning to mould. This time will shorten to around 15 mins during periods of hot weather or on pre-heated moulds. It is better to apply a single thin coat over the whole mould and then buffing to maintain the evenness of finish.

Storage
The products may be stored at normal ambient temperatures and have a shelf life of not less than 12 months with correct storage. If the products are subjected to temperatures of <15°C then they will solidify, however on being left in a warm environment (25 - 30°C) they will return to their original state. Always shake well before use.
